Competência metafórica dos falantes de português língua de herança na Suiça

Abstract:
Num contexto plurilingue na Suíça, país com uma diversidade linguística bastante presente, desenvolvemos o nosso estudo com o objetivo de compreender como se caracteriza a competência metafórica dos falantes de português como língua de herança (PLH). Apesar do conceito de língua de herança ser relativamente recente, a investigação dos últimos anos na área específica do PLH tem sido muito profícua (cf., entre outros, Flores, 2013a; Flores & Melo-Pfeifer, 2014; Melo-Pfeifer, 2016; Ferreira, 2016) e tem contribuído para um melhor conhecimento deste grupo de falantes. Assim, e tendo a Suíça uma comunidade portuguesa muito numerosa com cerca de 10.000 alunos a frequentar os cursos do Ensino do Português no Estrangeiro (EPE) no ano letivo de 2018/2019, torna-se imperativo investigar e conhecer melhor este público para que as práticas linguísticas e didáticas possam ser adaptadas ao mesmo e tornarem-se, assim, mais efetivas. Por sua vez, a competência metafórica (cf. Danesi, 1993; Batoréo, 2015), entendida como a capacidade de compreender e produzir expressões metafóricas, ubiquamente presentes na linguagem do quotidiano, é uma competência linguística essencial para qualquer falante. Com a presente dissertação procuramos analisar a competência metafórica, nomeadamente ao nível da produção de expressões corporizadas com as palavras ‘mão’ e ‘pé’, de dois grupos de falantes de PLH na Suíça de faixas etárias diferentes. Ambos os grupos são constituídos por falantes de PLH que frequentam o 7º ano e o 10º, 11º e 12º anos dos cursos do EPE da cidade de Chur, situada na região germanófona da Suíça. Com base na análise do corpus do grupo de falantes de PLH e comparando-o com o grupo de controlo de língua materna, concluímos que a competência metafórica nos dois grupos etários de PLH não é significativamente diferente e que, simultaneamente, os falantes mais novos de PLH têm uma competência metafórica muito próxima da dos falantes nativos, enquanto nos mais velhos verificamos uma competência metafórica menos desenvolvida em comparação com a dos falantes nativos. ; In Switzerland’s multilingual context, where linguistic diversity is particularly intense, we have developed our study in order to understand how the metaphorical competence of Portuguese speakers as a language of heritage (PLH) is characterized. Even though the concept of heritage language is relatively recent, the research in the specific area of PHL has been very fruitful (cf., among others, Flores, 2013; Flores & Melo-Pfeifer, 2014; Melo-Pfeifer, 2016; Ferreira, 2016) and has contributed to a better knowledge of this group of speakers. Considering that Switzerland has a very large Portuguese community, with around 10,000 students attending the Portuguese Teaching Abroad - Ensino Português no Estrangeiro (EPE) courses in the academic year 2018/2019, it is imperative to investigate and better understand this public so that language and didactic practices can be adapted in order to become more effective. The metaphorical competence (cf. Danesi, 1993; Batoréo, 2015), understood as the ability to comprehend and produce metaphorical expressions, ubiquitously present in everyday language, is an essential linguistic competence for any speaker. With this dissertation we try to analyze the metaphorical competence, namely in terms of the production of expressions embodied with the words 'hand' and 'foot', of two groups of PLH speakers in Switzerland of different ages. Both groups are made up of PLH speakers attending the 7th (Group A) and 10th, 11th and 12th (Group B) grades of the EPE courses in the city of Chur in the German-speaking region of Switzerland. Based on the analysis of the corpus of the PLH speaker group and comparing it with the mother tongue control group, we concluded that the metaphorical competence in the two PLH age groups is not significantly different. Simultaneously, the younger speakers of PLH have a metaphorical competence very close to that of native speakers, while at the older ones we found a less developed metaphorical competence compared to the native speakers.
